If you are new to taking CBD it can be intimidating to figure out where to begin. When I first started taking CBD I followed the guidance on the box and just assumed that I should start with the recommended dose for the dropper. Turns out that was WAY too much, and mostly just served to waste a bunch of tincture and give me some digestive distress.
So, I went and did some research to actually learn more about dosing and how to get started. The conventional wisdom is to "start low and go slow."
Here is the pattern that I followed and it was the best method for me to determine my personal dosage. I stopped at 3 drops 2x a day and that works perfectly for me. I take mine with my morning coffee, and about an hour before bed. Your mileage may vary.
Days 1-7: take 1 drop of a low dose cbd bottle (I began with a 250mg bottle) up to 3 times a day. Roughly Morning, Noon, and Bedtime.
Days 8-14: take 2 drops of low does CBD up to 3 times a day.
Days 15-21: take 3 drops of low dose CBD up to 3 times a day.
Days 22-30: take 4 drops of low dose CBD up to 3 times a day.
Days 31-37: take 5 drops of low does CBD up to 3 times a day.
At this point, it might be worth looking into a higher dose tincture. If you double your concentration of tincture, for example from a 250mg bottle to a 500 mg bottle, I would recommend starting back at the 2 drops 3 times a day and working back up from there.
Most of the tincture directions say to place the drops under your tongue and hold it there for 6 seconds. Now, I don't know about you, but I can't see into my mouth to see how many drops were added. And until you know your final dosage, I would recommend adding the drops to a glass of liquid where you can see it. CBD tincture is not changed by the addition of flavoring, or mixing. If you want to cook with it, we don't recommend using a tincture. (For cooking, we recommend the use of a powdered crystallized isolate, but that is a post for another time)
For my morning dose, I add the drops to my first cup of coffee, For my bedtime dose, I add it to a mug of hot tea or small cup of juice. If you are new to the taste of the tincture, I would recommend something with a powerful flavor like Orange Juice.
It is possible that your endocannabinoid system needs a higher dose, but before you know how much you need, let your body adjust and find out how much you really need to feel results. That way you don't waste money, or upset your body by give it too much.
